The most appropriate description of Chopard&rsquo;s L.U.C Time Traveler One is that it&rsquo;s a sensible watch for those who actually cross time zones, not just dream about them. But sensible only gets you so far. For the 30thanniversary of Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, the brand has given this travel complication a harder edge &ndash; sharper, more contemporary, and with just enough attitude to remind you that practical doesn&rsquo;t have to equate polite. Limited to 250 pieces, this is a worldtimer that finally looks like it belongs in the present moment. <o:p></o:p>
What works is how well it understands the person wearing it. The dial is arranged in concentric layers: set your local time zone at 12 o&rsquo;clock, and you can read the hour across 24 cities at a glance. Two crowns keep the controls separate with the upper one handles local time and date and the lower adjusts the city disc. It sounds fiddly on paper, but the display is intuitive. Which, really, is the entire point of a travel watch. <o:p></o:p>

The look has changed too. Chopard has dialled in a palette of khaki, beige markings and a yellow seconds hand that warms the design without softening it. A vertically satin-brushed centre, luminescent accents and a restrained city ring keep everything legible, even with considerable information on display.<o:p></o:p>
 Then there is the case. At 42 mm it carries real presence, yet ceramised Grade 5 titanium keeps the weight down and the durability up. The finish is a muted anthracite, resistant to scratches, wear and corrosion, which are sensible specs for something built to live out of a suitcase. <o:p></o:p>

Inside, the L.U.C 01.05-L automatic calibre power the watch. 60 hours of power reserve, COSC chronometer certification, and finishing worth examining through the tinted sapphire caseback. The result is a watch that earns its keep. <o:p></o:p>
