A recipient of numerous accolades, including the Hublot Design Prize, Forbes 30 Under 30, three British Fashion Awards, and the GQ Fashion Award, Ross was honoured in 2024 with an M.B.E. for his services to fashion and an honorary doctorate for his contributions to the arts. His creative journey includes a pivotal collaboration with the late Virgil Abloh, where he began as Abloh’s first design assistant. Through initiatives like the SR_A Artists Grants Programme, Ross partners with institutions such as The King’s Trust and the Royal College of Art, underscoring his commitment to nurturing emerging talent and advancing the arts.

Samuel Ross debuted the REFORM sculpture to celebrate Hublot’s 40th anniversary in 2020, marking the beginning of his creative partnership with the watchmaker. This collaboration inspired the Big Bang Tourbillon Samuel Ross, a timepiece that showcases his signature use of geometry, bold colour, and a shared passion with Hublot for material ‘fusion.’ Building on this pioneering model, Ross unveiled the new Hublot Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A during Miami Art Week 2024, where he redefined the materials and introduced a fresh chromatic direction. Departing from his earlier work with shades of orange and green, the new design is anchored in a striking blue.

Reimagining the iconic Big Bang case, the Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A by Samuel Ross is a bold exploration of form and materiality. The case is defined by a striking honeycomb pattern in a refined grey finish that seamlessly extends to the movement, while the bezel’s two-tone finish adds visual depth. Two distinct shades of blue accent the hands and hour markers, with the lighter tone also applied to the crown moulding for subtle contrast. Furthermore, the flanks at 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock, along with the bezel lugs, are crafted from frosted grey carbon, complementing the modern transparency of the sapphire dial and lends the design an architectural edge.

At its core lies the Manufacture HUB6035 automatic calibre, a technical masterpiece featuring a micro-rotor and a skeletonised tourbillon at 6 o’clock. The timepiece is completed with a dark blue rubber strap, perforated with the signature honeycomb motif to mirror the case’s design. Additionally, a redesigned clasp ensures both comfort and a tailored fit. As a limited and exclusive production, only 50 pieces of this new Big Bang Tourbillon Carbon SR_A by Samuel Ross will be made available. Each shall be housed in a specially designed collector's box.

“By reflecting on how to use the latest technology and materials as tools to offer a contemporary vision of watchmaking that focusses on people, surprising them with original details or bringing a smile to their face with a touch of playful colour, we are trying to create a design that speaks a universal language that is both elegant and simple to understand. I look forward to continuing to work alongside Hublot Manufacture and its teams.” Dr Samuel Ross, Artist, Designer and Hublot Ambassador.
