Corelab Studio has quickly earned its reputation as one of Kuala Lumpur&rsquo;s go-to spaces for all things Lagree, a method beloved by celebrities, trainers and anyone who wants their workout to hurt in a strangely addictive way. This is not Pilates with a scented candle. Lagree takes the elegance of reformer training and infuses it with the intensity of slow-burn muscle torture. The MiniPro machine, smaller and more streamlined than its intimidating Megafroemer sibling, is deceptively cute, like a sports car with an unexpectedly violent launch control system.

The studio itself sets the tone: minimalist, dimly lit and purposefully uncluttered, as if to remind you there is nothing to focus on but the machine and your impending existential crisis. Slick black-and-red interiors, polished concrete floors and soft red lighting that feel almost merciful, this is boutique fitness with an editorial sensibility. Everything in Lagree is micro, intentional and deeply deceptive. On the Megaformer, the slow pace is obvious; on the MiniPro, it feels borderline illegal. The shorter carriage means you are closer to the movement, closer to the machine&rsquo;s resistance, and consequently, closer to discovering muscle groups you&rsquo;ve never formally met.

Warm-up comprised a series of controlled plans that immediately exposed the realities of my core strength, or lack of it. The carriage glided forward with unsettling compliance, and within seconds, I understood why Lagree enthusiasts walk around with the smug glow of people who have seen the light. The MiniPro does not just demand balance; it demands total, unwavering presence. At any moment, a centimetre too far in any direction becomes the difference between a beautiful extension and what can only be described as a controlled fall. We moved through variations of lunges, pikes and holds that tested not just my body, but my self-esteem. Jolene&rsquo;s voice floated above the curated playlist: upbeat enough to motivate, subtle enough to distract, reminding us to move at &ldquo;four counts in, four counts out.&rdquo; Never in my life has counting to four felt so antagonistic.

The iconic Lagree lunge (think: one foot on stable ground, one on the sliding carriage) was, unsurprisingly, where the ego death happened. On the outside, it looks slow, elegant, maybe even meditative. Inside the movement, it feels like you&rsquo;re negotiating with your own legs. The MiniPro&rsquo;s compact surface makes you acutely aware of your alignment: hips squared, core braced, back leg extending with surgical precision. My quads trembled like a toddler on roller skates. My glutes activated in ways that felt deeply personal. Then came the upper body segment, which Lagree loyalists always claim is &ldquo;not that bad.&rdquo; Lies. On the MiniPro, even basic movements like saw planks and tricep presses feel amplified, like someone added bass to your muscles. Here, the slow pace reveals its sinister brilliance: without momentum to hide behind, your body does the actual work. Every millimetre is earned and every bead of sweat justified. In that stillness, you feel every fibre firing. It&rsquo;s the kind of burn that separates the dabblers from the devoted. Yet for all its brutality, the MiniPro Basic class is strangely addictive. There&rsquo;s a sophistication in the structure, a clarity that traditional gym workouts sometimes lack. Each movement feels like it belongs to a bigger sequence, a choreography of control. You don&rsquo;t just do a Lagree workout, you participate in it.

Jolene and Jocelyn elevate the experience. They are attentive without being hovering, encouraging without cliches, and precise in their corrections. When my hips tilted slightly off during a plank-to-pike, a gentle cue recalibrated everything. It is not about perfection, it is about precision, intention and showing up for yourself even when your muscles are staging a silent protest. The post-class sensation is unlike anything else. You won&rsquo;t feel destroyed, exactly. More like recalibrated. Taller, strangely aligned, as if someone updated your internal software.
