Starring in the successful Netflix production, Emerald Hill, Tyler stands in the spotlight with us this month with Coach.

To be honest, we&rsquo;ve always thought Tyler Ten was slept on. Blessed with boyish good looks, a towering 1.9m frame, and a superhero physique sculpted from years of bodybuilding and martial arts practice, the 29-year-old actor should be making bank as a leading man. Yet despite a steady output since his Star Search 2019 debut, the guy remains under the radar. Perhaps it&rsquo;s his introverted nature and reserved public front that has kept him low-key. Then again, he&rsquo;s not one to shy away from shirtless thirst traps, and he&rsquo;s a sweetheart to his supporters, so his popularity should really be off the charts. It&rsquo;s quite perplexing.&nbsp;
All that&rsquo;s about to change, we hope, as Ten finally scored his first wins at the recent Star Awards 2025. Bagging both the Best Rising Star and Most Popular Rising Star awards, coupled with a breakout role in the wildly popular Netflix series Emerald Hill, the time is ripe for the world to be acquainted with this underrated screen star of tomorrow. We&rsquo;ve long sensed his potential, so we&rsquo;re simply doing our part to help shine the spotlight on the talented Ten.

Congratulations on your recent Star Awards wins! What was going through your mind when they were announced?
Wow, all sorts of emotions. Watching the playback, you&rsquo;ll see how nervous I was. My face was all tensed up, and my heart was pounding because so many of my fans were chanting my name. I was in disbelief when they finally announced it. And since this is my first award, I&rsquo;m also truly grateful and wanted to share the victory with everyone who&rsquo;ve supported me since 2019.
Now that you&rsquo;ve had your first win, how are you feeling about your acting career?
I&rsquo;m happy and it&rsquo;s a good start, but there&rsquo;s definitely room for improvement. I think this win will bring new opportunities, just like Emerald Hill did. I&rsquo;m also hoping to see more of the world; I&rsquo;d love the chance to work in China since I&rsquo;m confident in my Mandarin, but until then, I&rsquo;ll keep honing my craft.

Besides acting, fitness is another big part of your life. When did that begin? I started lifting weights when I was around 12 or 13. I had a huge growth spurt when I was younger, to the point where my parents got worried and took me for a health checkup. Weight training became the solution to curb that. Later, I got into Muay Thai because I used to get teased in school for being tall and skinny. Martial arts helped me build confidence and gave me a sense of security.
We saw you recently met fitness superstar Amotti. It was surreal, because I watched season two of Physical: 100 and was a big fan of his. He&rsquo;s incredibly fit in person, and his dedication to fitness is on a whole other level. Sure it&rsquo;s different because he does it for a living, but I&rsquo;ve seen the way he trains and it&rsquo;s truly impressive.
Do you think you can take him on in a physical challenge? No way. The only thing I&rsquo;ve got on him is height. [Laughs]
What&rsquo;s one recent fitness trend you&rsquo;re obsessed with? I&rsquo;ve been gearing myself towards more functional training, and one day I&rsquo;d love to take on Hyrox. I used to train purely for appearance, but I feel that&rsquo;s not really beneficial for me anymore.

You clearly take care of yourself physically. Would you say you&rsquo;re comfortable in your own skin?&nbsp; Before, I wouldn&rsquo;t say so. I didn&rsquo;t have much self-confidence due to my past experiences. It wasn&rsquo;t until I entered the industry that I started learning to be more confident, especially in front of the camera. When I&rsquo;m on set, I get to step outside of myself and into another role. People don&rsquo;t see &ldquo;Tyler&rdquo; but the character, and that helps me to let go of any perceived judgement.
What else do you like to do in your downtime? Are you an outdoors or indoors person? I&rsquo;m in the middle. I like to run outdoors, but I don&rsquo;t like to stay under the sun for too long. And when I&rsquo;m working, I&rsquo;d rather just stay home to watch Netflix and chill. I&rsquo;m into Chinese dramas at the moment, partly to improve my Mandarin and partly to understand what&rsquo;s going on in that world.

You&rsquo;re also a regular at fashion events. What&rsquo;s your relationship with fashion? To me, fashion is about storytelling. I&rsquo;ve learned over the years that it&rsquo;s not just about appearance &mdash; what you wear is also a reflection of what you are feeling. I&rsquo;m dressed pretty casually most of the time because that is how I am as a person. But for events like the Star Awards, I get to be bold and step out of my comfort zone to try new styles. Fashion&rsquo;s ability to tell different stories resonates with me as an actor.
Any tips for dressing a tall and muscular frame? Definitely wear black, and something slim-fit and tailored to your body. That&rsquo;ll accentuate your build. Nothing skinny, though; I used to wear a lot of skinny jeans, but I&rsquo;ve moved on.
Finally, what&rsquo;s next for you? Any upcoming projects you&rsquo;d like to share? Right now, I&rsquo;m filming a new show with Tasha [Low]. It&rsquo;s our third time working together. [Our characters] didn&rsquo;t have a happy ending in Emerald Hill, so if fans want to see more of us in another universe, they should stay tuned.
