Dikson Mah isn&rsquo;t just designing clothes, he&rsquo;s sculpting them. The Malaysian talent fuses 3D printing with traditional craftsmanship, striking a balance between futurism and elegance. His philosophy? Fashion as &ldquo;wearable sculpture,&rdquo; where structure meets the human body. And as he refines his voice, Dikson is already shaping the future of how style and technology collide. Creativity can sometimes feel like a conversation between self-expression and cultural heritage. How do you navigate that dialogue in your work? I take traditional ideas of proportion and line, and rework them into a modern, minimal visual language. For me, it&rsquo;s never about replicating heritage literally; it&rsquo;s about carrying its spirit forward and letting it speak in a contemporary dialogue. Malaysia is a crossroad of cultures, aesthetics and traditions. How does this diversity inspire, or challenge, your design process? Malaysia&rsquo;s diversity is a constant source of inspiration; the contrasts in colour palettes, textures and techniques often spark new directions in my design. The real challenge, though, is carving out a distinct brand identity within such a rich cultural backdrop. That&rsquo;s why I anchor DIKSON MAH in the language of structure and form; it keeps my vision sharp while still embracing that diversity.

Starting out in fashion often means working with limited resources but unlimited ideas. How has this shaped your problem solving and innovation? Starting out with limited resources forced me to innovate with what I had. In my latest collection, that meant leaning into fabric manipulation, sculptural folds and 3D-printed curves to create drama, without needing extravagant textiles. Those constraints pushed me to be more experimental and resourceful, and they continue to shape how I problem solve today. Many young creatives feel pressure to follow trends for visibility. How do you balance staying relevant with staying true to your own vision? Trends are temporary, but style is permanent. I pay attention to what&rsquo;s current, but I don&rsquo;t follow trends blindly. My brand has always been rooted in structure and sculptural silhouettes &mdash; that&rsquo;s the DNA. It&rsquo;s what keeps the work distinct, recognisable and relevant no matter how fashions shift.

Ryan&rsquo;s designs are where Malaysia meets the world. The emerging fashion designer weaves local fabrics, shapes and traditions into pieces that honour heritage while embracing global influences. For him, the goal isn&rsquo;t just preserving culture, it&rsquo;s evolving it, proving Malaysian style can be just as daring, experimental and relevant on the international stage. Your designs often carry a distinct narrative. How do you decide which stories are worth translating into garments, and what makes a story &ldquo;wearable&rdquo; to you? Honestly, I don&rsquo;t overthink it. If I like an idea, I design it. If not, I don&rsquo;t. Simple as that. People often read stories into the work afterward, which is cool, but I&rsquo;m not always trying to tell one. I just follow whatever feels exciting at the moment. When you sit down to design, are you driven more by form and aesthetics, or by functionality and the way the piece interacts with the body? Oh, it&rsquo;s all about form and aesthetics for me. The shape, the texture, the mood, that&rsquo;s what gets me hyped. I love pushing visual ideas as far as I can. But at the end of the day, it still has to be wearable. If I want someone to put it on and feel something, I can&rsquo;t ignore functionality. It&rsquo;s this constant dance: making a statement while letting the piece move with the body.

In an age where fast fashion and fleeting trends dominate, how do you keep your work timeless yet relevant? Timeless? Haha, not really. I follow trends too, but I don&rsquo;t just copy them. I take what clicks and twist it into my own world. It&rsquo;s all about filtering influences through my perspective, so even if it starts familiar, the end result feels intentional and personal. That&rsquo;s how I keep it relevant, without losing my voice. Many designers talk about the &ldquo;voice&rdquo; of their brand. What does your design voice sound like, and how has it evolved over time? I&rsquo;d say my design voice is very culturally driven. There&rsquo;s always a focus on texture and storytelling. I don&rsquo;t think I could ever fully do the clean, minimal, quiet luxury aesthetic. I&rsquo;ve tried, but there&rsquo;s always something itching at the back of my mind telling me to add something. It&rsquo;s just not me I guess, for now at least. Over time, I think the voice itself hasn&rsquo;t changed much, but the execution has. When I look back at my older work, the ideas are still there; they&rsquo;re just more refined now. The construction is better, the techniques are sharper, and I&rsquo;ve learned how to express the same message in a clearer way.
