These latest additions the Maison’s first ever luggage made from sleek, durable aluminium.

For more than a decade, the collaboration between Marc Newson and Louis Vuitton has connected the seemingly disparate pathways of industrial design and travel. When the Australian designer first partnered with the French maison in 2014, he was already celebrated for work that spanned from furniture to aircraft interiors and clocks. At Louis Vuitton, Newson first created a limited-edition backpack that incorporated the maison’s treasured monograms, and later designed the bottles for the maison’s foray into fragrances that debuted in 2016. Another project was quietly taking shape at the same time—a suitcase intended to redefine modern travel in the way Louis Vuitton’s trunks once transformed nineteenth-century journeys.
 
That project became Horizon. Informed by clean lines and engineered to prioritise ease and efficiency, the suitcase reflected Newson’s fascination with movement and simplicity. Over the years, Horizon evolved into one of Louis Vuitton’s defining travel pieces, available in canvas and leather versions that could be personalised through seasonal motifs and colours.

To mark a decade of the collaboration, Louis Vuitton introduces the Horizon Aluminum, the maison’s first aluminium suitcase. The material choice carries both historical and contemporary significance. Aluminium has long been central to Newson’s practice and used for its durability and recyclability. It also harks to the aluminium trunks Louis Vuitton created for explorers at the end of the nineteenth century.
 
The Horizon Aluminum is built via a series of stamping and laser-cutting processes that allow the shell to retain the rounded curves that define the Horizon line. During the final stage, its surface is embossed with the Louis Vuitton Monogram.

Newson also sought to eliminate visible mechanical details wherever possible. Traditional rivets have been replaced by an ultra-thin frame system attached directly to the shell while concealed hinges are integrated into the interior structure. According to Louis Vuitton, the Horizon Aluminum is the first rivet-free aluminium suitcase on the market.
 
Functionality remains central to the design. The trolley system is positioned externally to maximise interior space, while enlarged wheels and an extra-wide telescopic handle improve manoeuvrability and reduce noise. VVN or black leather trims soften the industrial character of the aluminium body. The suitcase can also be repaired more easily through removable components and replaceable leather elements. 
 
This latest addition places the Horizon line on a new level of sophistication, an indispensable element central to Louis Vuitton’s Art of Travel. All it takes to activate this is a new adventure abroad.
